DISASTER RECOVERY

Is Disaster Recovery Necessary?

Recent statistics show a number of alarming issues that have a potential to put your business in severe operational difficulty or worse. So, are you prepared for the inevitable? Spend a moment reading through the situations below and if you are unable to address them successfully, Loop Centre consultants are here to help.

  • Over 80% of companies who suffer a disaster can expect to go out of business within 18 months as a consequence. (Source - Survive)
  • The survival rate for companies without a disaster recovery plan is less than 10% (Source - Touche Ross)
  • 70% of all successful attacks on computer networks, many of which were accidental, were carried out by employees/insiders (Source - IDC)

So what is “BCP” and “DRP”?

BCP – Business Continuity Planning is the process that identifies the key functions of an organisation and the likely threats from those functions. From this information, plans and procedures can be developed to ensure continuity of key functions within a business should a disaster occur.

DRP – Disaster Recovery Planning is the process of returning a business function to a state of normal operations either at an interim minimal survival level and/or re-establishing full scale operations.

Disaster Categories?

There are three categories that can be held responsible which are as follows:

  • Natural Disaster (Fire, Wind, Rain, Flood)
  • Malicious Intent (Computer viruses, burglary, staff vandalism, cyber attack)
  • Accidental (Power outages, Telecoms failures, hardware and software errors)
